My Commitment to Honest Homesteading Advice

Welcome to The 104 Homestead. I’m so glad you’re here.

If you’ve ever felt overwhelmed by all the advice out there about gardening, raising animals, or living more self-sufficiently, you’re not alone. I’ve been there too. That’s why I’m focused on sharing real, practical guidance that actually works no matter your starting point, budget, or backyard size.

This isn’t about doing everything perfectly. It’s about taking small, steady steps that move you closer to the life you want.

What You Can Expect From Me

I’ve been homesteading for more than twelve years. I started on a tiny quarter-acre in town and now live on five acres here in Maine. I’ve tried plenty of things, failed at a bunch of them, and learned a lot along the way. I share those lessons here so you don’t have to make the same mistakes.

When I give advice, it comes from personal experience. I’ve learned what works, what doesn’t, and what’s worth your time. I’m not here to sell you a dream that only works for people with endless land or free time. I’m here to help you build a homestead that fits your real life.

I Value Your Trust and Here’s How I Keep It

I believe in being upfront with you. You deserve to know how things work around here.

  • Sponsorships and Partnerships: Once in a while, I work with brands I actually use and believe in. If I wouldn’t use it myself, you won’t see it on the site.
  • Affiliate Links: Some of my posts include affiliate links, mostly through Amazon. If you buy something through those links, I may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. That income helps keep the lights on and the coffee pot full.
  • Product Reviews: Sometimes I receive products to test out. Whether I buy them myself or they’re sent to me, my reviews are always honest and based on real use.

You’ll always know when a post includes affiliate links or sponsored content. No secrets. No fine print.

I Keep Things Updated Because Homesteading Changes

Homesteading isn’t static. What works one year might not work the next. I go back through older posts often to make sure they’re still accurate and useful.

If I ever get something wrong, I’ll fix it. Simple as that.

This Is a Community, Not Just a Blog

The 104 Homestead isn’t just me talking at you. It’s a community built on shared experiences and honest conversations.

Here’s how I stay connected:

  • Reader Questions: I read every comment, email, and newsletter reply, and I try to answer each one.
  • Social Media: I’m most active on Facebook and Instagram, where I share real moments from my own homestead: the wins and the messes.
  • Guest Contributors: It’s rare, but sometimes I invite trusted friends to write about topics outside my usual scope. These are people I personally know and respect.

What We Value Around Here

There’s no single “right” way to homestead. Whether you’re growing herbs on a windowsill or raising a barn full of animals, you belong here.

I believe in:

  • Community over competition
  • Progress over perfection
  • Practical advice that fits real life
  • Encouragement, not pressure

My Promise to You

Here at The 104 Homestead, I promise to keep things:

✓ Honest and experience-based

I’m truly grateful you’re here. If you ever have a question, an idea, or just need someone to tell you that yes, it’s completely normal to cry over a failed batch of jam, I’m only an email away.

Let’s keep learning and growing together.
